Stamp Ink Paper: Card Maker’s Choice #80

Today’s card is for the first Stamp Ink Paper Challenge of 2017!  When I first got the card making bug I sent birthday cards to family and friends.  Then as my life got busy between deployments and military retirement, my side business in graphic design took off like wildfire.  A week or so ago, I posted on my personal FB page that #ImBringingBirthdaysBack in 2017 (hence the watermark).  I received many responses from friends (family is already included) and I got started last month.  This card went to a childhood friend, Jose.  He lived two houses down from me and our families are friends to this day.

Join us this week and show us what your style of cardmaking.

The Details:

  • Stamped Circle.  To get a perfectly round stamped image in the center punch a scrap sheet of paper no bigger than the card base (4.25″ x 5.5″). Place it in the center where you want the image placed and use a large enough stamp that will cover the opening. It doesn’t have to be round you can choose any shape you desire.
  • Boots.  Were colored with Copic markers and two sets of Stampin’ Dimensionals were used to give an added dimension to the boot and background.
  • Just for kicks. Silver metallic thread was added to the back of the boots to just for fun.

Love in Tempting Turquoise

Valentine

The greatest gift is love… and this Valentine's day I'm going to give it freely.  Just like Christmas cards I'm sending them to those on my list… naughty or nice… LOL.

Love

I 'love" the Expressions Thinlits Dies, no pun intended…LOL.  The set contain the words, Merry and Thankful.  The tiny heart inside the 'o' was cut out from the Owl Punch from a piece of scrap paper (I throw nothing away).

In order for the 'love' cut from tempting turquoise cardstock to stand out… I cut out the middle of the Tea Lace Paper Doily with fifth circle from the Circles Collection Framelits Dies.

I also added a tiny bit of sparkle from a piece of Silver Glimmer paper* to add just a bit of sparkle.  I later colored it red and it looked better, I'll post the colored one on my FB page in the next day or so.

Love

*ON SALE:  Silver Glimmer paper only $3.71 (regular price $4.95)

Does Your Heart Live Happy?

Valentine's Day

In my quest to use happy colors I think I found a great combination with this card.  The colors pop anyway you look at it and you can't help but be happy.

But, now that Christmas is over…  I'm really getting into Valentine's Day and preparing for my shoebox get together and card classes before Valentine's Day!  I'm so excited I can't wait to get started.

Sketch Challenge, Valentine's Day

Sketch card brought to you by Mojo #325

Valentine's Day

The Red Glitter paper  adds a little pop to the real red sentiment on the whisper white card stock.  Actually, I think the entire heart pops in front of the Coastal Cabana card stock and Fresh Prints designer series paper stack*.  *Will debut in Occasions Catalog (Jan. 3, 2014).

The Bestest Friend Sketch Challenge

Sketch Challenge

How often have you heard people say, "one can count true friends on one hand?"  Just as you read it, you thought of them right?  I know I did the first time I saw the Label Love stamp set.

Can one truly have just one best friend?  Or are the one-hand count friends simply the best?  This card floods my heart with memories of my childhood best friend, Gabriela Gomez, and you can read about her here.

PPPA 185To make this card, I used the Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge 185.  For 2014, I'm going to try my hardest to create a card for each challenge in hopes of receiving the Paper Artist Pick honor.  You can see the cards that won that honor in 2013 here.

Sketch Challenge

The Modern Mosaic embossing folder is a perfect match on the Winter Frost designer series paper and the pop of Calypso Coral cardstock adds a sweet almost honeydew taste of color… don't ya think?   I've been in an embossing mood lately, so I embossed the sentiment with Silver embossing powder.

Blog Candy Winner is:  Rosalie

Thank you Rosalie for playing along.  I hope you enjoy putting the My Paper Pumpkin Memo Medley Kit together and make something wonderful with it.

Happy New Year Cards

This year I felt as if Christmas snuck up on me and I didn't make enough Christmas cards to send out.  I made two additional batches and still ran out of them!

I knew the Christmas cards wouldn't arrive in time, so I decided on Happy New Year cards.  I made them quick and easy and began mailing them out today.

Happy New Year3

Card one is clean and simple with whisper white on whisper white cardstock.  I used the Northern Flurry embossing folder on all three versions of my card to give it a soft & subtle texture.

NY2

With this one I changed up the card base with Island Indigo cardstock and added Island Indigo 3/4" Chevron ribbon.

Happy New Year1

Finally, my third card with a card base color change using Bermuda Bay cardstock.  Maybe you too can make these if you missed a few people on your card list.  It took me 15 minutes to make 30 cards… yippee!!!

Stampin’ Up! Noel

I would love for you to help me help you.  I want to give someone FREE Stampin' Up! product aka blog candy.  I'm happiest when you are happy and since I love making cards, I want you to experience the same happiness.

When people first meet me they think one of three things:1) she's a little nutty, 2) she loves making cards, or 3) wow, she's a nutty card maker.  Would you love to have what I'm having?  This post is your chance!

Let me tell you about this card and then you can help me… Keep Calm and Read On.

Christmas

Can you believe that I still have quite a few boxes of My Paper Pumpkin kits laying around!?  To my surprise I found this kit and quickly put them together.  But I think I'm going to need more.

The picture really does not do the card justice.  The actual card is so bright and cheery… I just love it.  If you stare at the red stripes the card appears to be moving as the pattern plays a trick on your eyes.

Blog Candy Details

Blog Candy

To enter to win the My Paper Pumpkin Memo Medley Kit (October) all you have to do is answer this question in the comment area below:

Did you have a holiday tradition either growing up or did you start one?

Growing up my parents had a big birthday party to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas Eve.  Family and friends dropped by throughout the night and ate tamales, posole, buñuelos, and so much other types of dishes that you better had showed up hungry.

At midnight we sang happy birthday to the Baby Jesus in Spanish and a piñata would be brought out for the kids to break apart.  Candy fell out everywhere and it was so much fun.

You're thinking "at midnight!?"  Eeeeek!  Yup we stayed up until the wee hours of the morning.  On Christmas day we pretty slept all day.  Those sure were such beautiful memories that will live in my heart forever.

Winner will be announced Friday., December 27th.

Merriest Wishes to You

I've been trying to keep up with my blog since returning home from overseas and I must confess that I'm having a tough time.  Everyday something fascinating happens to me and I tell myself, "you must share this with your blog visitors!"

Then something happens once I get home… My thoughts become jumbled (is that even a word) and they overwhelm me.  I feel as if you will not feel the same excitement I did when I write it (am I going bananas?)… LOL.

As I start to re-live the excitement, I feel like I'm writing way too much (like right now).  So let me get to  my quick & easy cards I made after I ran out of my batch of original Christmas cards.

Christmas

I used most of my left over scraps to make these cards because as you know I throw nothing away. The Tag It stamp set was perfect too!  I stamped the tag twice… first with basic black ink and then real red ink.

I then punch Santa Clause with the Curly Label punch.  I love anything with a 3-D effect.

CONGRATULATIONS

Jennifer G.

You won the This and That Epic Day Journal I posted in the Congratulations on Your Wedding post!

Christmas

Now, I'm going to tell you about an amazing lady I had the pleasure of meeting last week.  Her name is Linda (her real name too… LOL) and it's amazing how I met her, but I'll save that story for another day.

I was simply picking up a handmade pen a friend of her husband made for me (does that make sense)… one thing led to another and we sat and drank coffee and chatted up a thunderstorm for a little over three hours!

It was met to be and I made a new crafting friend… I'm still giddy from her friendship.  I accidently dropped my identification card in her living room and I had to swing back and pick it up (I wonder if it was really an accident or just an excuse to go back and chat some more)… LOL.

Linda even made me cookies when I returned to pick up my ID card… I'm so thankful and blessed to have made a new friend!

You’re My Hero… A Salute to First Responders

Kid

A friend from long ago, whom I met through my sister-in-law over 20 years ago is an L.A.P.D. police officer.  She is very patriotic and has never hesitated to show her gratefulness to our nation's military.

However, she is my hero herself!  Her life is in danger every time she puts on her uniform.  She believes in her city and has done everything within her power to keep it safe.  Here's to you Ms. Y!  I'm so proud of you.

kid

I love this stamp set because it reminds me of the police cars from long ago.  The car is somewhat from the 70's and I wouldn't call it antique… but it's pretty close to it don't you think?  Perfect for a kid's birthday card.

The very last of the Tea Party series stamps.  I colored in the flowers with the Stampin' markers.  When giving someone flowers whether they are real or on paper… no sentiment needed.   Would you agree?

I added a the stitching because I thought it brought out an old fashioned softness to the overall stamp.

This morning on the 12th anniversary of 9/11, I am humbled and as everyone does, we share the moment of our actions on that unforgettable day.  A day of remembrance for the souls lost and a prayer for our country are on my agenda today.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog today.  It's been a long heavy day for me.  It started off with a sudden strike of insomnia that weakened my aura.  As I write this I am functioning off of 2-1/2 hours of sleep.  I'll be taking some melatonin to help me rest tonight and reset my clock.  I'm sure I'll be much more rested with energy tomorrow.

What do you recommend I do to fight this insomnia?  What works for you if you have sleeping issues?

All of my friends and family, including my co-workers… know first hand how crazy I am for Hello Kitty.  I've seen so many Hello Kitty cards that I think I racked my brain for weeks trying to figure out which punches I could use to re-create this beautiful kitty… LoL.

I finally found the cat's meow… with three punches that you may already have.  They are the Owl, 1" Circle, and Word Window punches.  You too can make this sweet popular feline that has never stopped being popular since I was an early teen.

Make sure that the whiskers are in line with the eyes and nose.  I've created a step by step PDF instruction sheet to help you.  I hope it helps you put together your own Hello Kitty.  Please feel free to share with anyone you want.

Tea in Color

Tea Color 1

Who remembers this card in black & white?  Take a look at it here and you may think, "Wow!  What a difference a little color makes."  It really isn't very hard to make an old black & white pop right… and they don't have to be bright bold colors either.

Tea Color 2

I was going to color in the pearls, but decided against it once I saw the green made them stand out.  I added a small amount of Crystal Effects to make the tea cup look like it was full, but the picture really doesn't do it justice.

My Monday is ending when your's is just beginning… so I guess you can say I have lived 10-13 hours of the future and it's still here.  =)  With all that going on in the world it is an inner peace we must seek and I find it in card making.  An old boss once told me, "Maggie, you have missed your calling."  She said this after a few months of working for her and she had the experience of signing many of my Maggie Made Cards for co-workers.

This was a few years prior to joining Stampin' Up!  Today, I don't believe I missed my calling… I made handmade cards as a child with my construction paper and crayons.  At 11 years old I made a bunch of Valentine's Day cards and would stand at the exit of the supermarket with my friend Anita as my mom shopped for groceries.

I was an amateur and people bought them because they saw my sweet face with big dimples… LoL.  The going rate for a card back in 1979 was a whole quarter!  Wow… was I excited.  I remember saving the quarters to buy the mega box of crayons, so I can make more cards with a variety of colors.

This card reminds me of those days… I went from black & white to color in 2011 when I joined Stampin' Up!  Now, I don't really sell the cards, I mostly give them away and it brings so much joy & happiness to me.  What do I sell now?  The supplies to help you make those cards… I want you to bring joy & happiness to those you care about… with a very simple handmade card.  Will you go for it and start your Stampin' Up! membership?

Thank you so much for visiting me today.  It's the beginning of an AWESOME week.  Fifty-two days and a wake up!

Maggie
