Hitting a Brick Wall with CYCI #70

Sympathy Vase
Did you know that the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack is one of my all time favorite? Nope you wouldn’t because I love it so much I don’t want to use it up. I have issues, I know (LOL). I love that it’s so realistic looking.
CYCI 70

Today’s card is a challenge card from Can You Case It and the challenge is anything you want with May Flowers.  I’m in Northern California and we didn’t get much rain in April, so our flowers were a little far and few between. Well, except for these little bitty one’s I plucked from my craft room.

Sympathy Vase

Why did I make a sympathy card with these two images? Have you faced a situation that you felt like you hit your head on a brick wall? We’ve all been there. But knowing that there is mystery and beauty behind the wall is what helped me deal with whatever I was going though.

MAGGIE MADE TIPS: Not in cash, but great crafting recommendations.

  • Water vase. I made it with the Bow Builder punch. I used a piece of Vellum to punch out the vase. For the water in the vase I used Tempting Turquoise from the Stampin’ Write Markers Brights Collection and colored in the vellum. To adhere the stems I dabbed a tiny bit of Crystal Effects. I also dabbed it on the outside of the vase, but it’s harder to get the wet effect on photo.
  • Window frame. To make the frame I nested two Squares Collection framelits together and it cut out a perfect frame!

Cheerful Critters Do a Pals Paper Arts Challenge

Cheerful Citters

I will never get over how realistic the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack looks. I love it so much that I used it again today. Yesterday I used the sawed lumber piece and you missed it you can see it here.

Today’s card is brought to you by Pals Paper Arts #241

Cheerful Critters

MAGGIE MADE TIPS: Not in cash, but great crafting recommendations.

  • Soften a dark background. Pull some color from the main focal point and add it to the dark undertones by bringing it to the dark background. To accomplish this I used a small piece of left-over whisper white and colored it with the same Soft Sky Blendie. I punched out three pedals and added the smallest Pearls to give it cuteness.
  • Frameless oval cutout. When you use designer paper that is so rich and realistic you don’t need to add any frame around the oval cutout because the design is so bold and beautiful.

Product Needed to Make This Card:

Peeping Paul……What!?

Paul Wood You Be Mine

I affectionately call the lumber jack in the Wood You Be Mine stamp set Paul as in Paul Bunyan. He is just so adorable and I love his beard. I didn’t color in his beard because this Paul is a much more mature Paul…LOL.

Wood You Be Mine

MAGGIE MADE TIPS: Not in cash, but great crafting recommendations

  • Make the focal point stand out. Initially, the lumber jack was placed on the  Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack (wood pieces), with Stampin’ Dimensionals, but he just didn’t look right. So my Circle of Pals member, Joy C. suggested I punch the paper and make Paul jump off the page. That’s exactly what I did. Thanks for your help Joy!
  • Paper Surgery. Did you notice the saw cutting off a piece of wood? To give the look of the saw cutting the wood I used an Xacto knife to trim the top half of the wood and slipped the saw underneath it and propped it up with a small piece of Stampin’ Dimensional.
  • How did I make the ring around Paul? I’m finishing up the video that shows you how and will post soon.  Sign up here to receive free blog updates and you won’t miss it.
