Lots of Thanks to Our Heros

World Card Making Day

Thank You

I am in awe of World Making Card Day.  This is my first time participating as a card-maker and not as a giver or receiver of one of these beautiful handmade cards.  I have had the pleasure of sending OWH cards to my loved one's a few years back and I have also received them from friends who were deployed.

Since then I too have become a card-maker and today I give thanks to the men and women who sacrifice so much for our freedom.  Thank you OWH for using today to showcase the beautiful works of art that I have personally benefited from.  Now, I give back to my comrades.

Thank You

For this card I used OWH's Sketch #45 simply because my birthday is October 16th and I will turn 45 years old.  I like to celebrate my birthday the entire month because I like to brag about I am…. growing old gracefully… LoL.  However, this year I am deployed and will celebrate my birthday for a whole month when I get home. =)

OWH 45

I was actually quite pleased with the way the card turned out.  Not bad #45… you made me proud.  Funny, in a couple weeks I will turn 45 and I don't know what 45 is supposed to feel like… so I'll just keep acting as young as my heart feels.  That's what my dad always says and he just turned 86 yesterday. =)

  12. First, THANK YOU for your service to our country! Now, on to the fun stuff…your card rocks! Love the colors and patterns, CAS and very effective! Doesn’t OWH rock?! I love it, doing something I enjoy that can then also bring joy to our brave Heroes and their loved ones, how can you go wrong?! As for 45, can’t say it felt any different. I think your Dad’s advise is perfect you are as old as you feel. (somedays that’s about 12, others 112!) Have a good birthday and look forward to that month long celebration when you get home.

  13. Happy Belated Birthday to your Dad. I love your card and with the banners makes it special. I actually won 2 huge card stock packs from sending in OWH cards last year. Happy Birthday Maggie I hope to get together with you when you come home. If I mail your card now will you receive it before you go home? I spent Card Making day with a group of six stampers.

  29. Such a beautiful Layout and card. Love the blues. Happy Birthday to you and your dad ! Maggie 45 is still very young. Happy World Card Making Day!

  30. Nice card!!! I have trouble with some of the sketches, and I think that being creative is the idea involved!

  31. I love the colors on your card! My favorite part is how you used the banners on the white squares. Thank you for your service. Happy birthday to you and your dad!

  32. Awesome card Maggie! The colors ROCK. So elegant together. I especially love the flags and how you got the flagged ends so perfect. I still struggle with that.

I discovered OWH last year and told myself that I would participate this year. But, I really struggled with my life in general this year. I love the concept and how everyone comes together and participates. I will check out WCMD site later tonight when I have more time.

Thanks so much for serving and for sharing! BIG blessings to you and Happy early Birthday!!! =)

  33. Awesome card, Maggie! And don’t worry, 45 is kinda like 44 and 46. But the numbers are getting harder for me to remember! I was interviewed for a newspaper that wrote down my age as 39 instead of 49, and now that’s thrown me off even more…..so since it printed me at 10 years younger, I’m going with it. LOL!

Thanks so much for your service!!! On both sides of the cardmaking venture 🙂

  34. Beautiful card, Maggie! I love the navy and yellow color scheme. Thank you for your service and have a happy WCMD!

  35. Love the colorway on your card. The banners are a lovely addition to the sketch.

  36. Maggie, First-Happy Birthday month…I too like to celebrate all month. I am in awe of all you have given for us, thank you for doing what you do. OWH is an awesome organiztion and I send cards when I can. You are a great card maker and I am thrilled that I found your blog!

  37. Maggie: I just recently discovered OWH on the web and was so excited to see that they have all the measurements with their sketches. Isn’t that nice?? One of the hardest things with the bazillion sketch challenges out there is figuring out measurements, so I loved that feature. Besides that though…. it is a fabulous organization with a worthy mission. Hope you are having a fun WCD and can take some time to create!
