On the Wedding Day

Wedding

Simple Elegance is how I feel about this card.  A little card for a big day!  This very card has had the biggest (almost said hugest…LoL) impact in my card-making hobby/business.  How?  It all began with friends requesting I make them a very special one-of-a-kind (not anymore) card.  Then someone else asked of I could make some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cards for their son’s birthday and that’s when I couldn’t keep up.  Heck, I’m still catching up.

Although I already know that my card-making will never stop, I will always make time to make those sweet little kid birthday card requests.  I know Etsy is a big deal now-a-days and everyone orders digitally created invitations then print them from home or a local box store.  Well I researched it one step further and found out that YOU too can make your custom-made party themed invitations with Mini/Micky Mouse, Superman, Batman, or whoever you wish.  To find a free theme invite simply search the name of the character and add PNG to the end of the search and you’ll get thousands of ideas.  However, you do have to be a little computer/software savvy to get the party started.

I posted a few of my custom-made items on the local Facebook groups in my area and within a few hours I received more requests and orders that I didn’t step foot into my craft room the entire week!  I thought to myself, “What was I thinking!”  The answer was simple, I love to share my God Given talent with others!

MAGGIE MADE TIPS:

  • White Space.  I’ve written about white space before and besides loving it so much, there is something you should know when attempting to leave so much open space on a card.  Layers!  Yes, it’s all about the layers…the more the better because the variations in color make all the difference and pull the eye away from seeing all that white space.  The eye doesn’t like clutter and the borderd layers gives the perception of nothing but elegance.  Seriously, look at the card and what do you see?  Husband…it doesn’t get any sweeter than.

Always Open.  This week I had a conversation with a friend who expressed her desire for a discount on her paper-crafting supplies, but fear a committment or a penalty if she signed up just to receive constant reminders about making sales or holding workshops.  I told her that my team is a non-hassle, non-committment, no sales requirement team.  What does that mean?  Read it  here.

Thank you so much for cathing up with me…until tomorrow Stay Crafty My Friends.

Big News… In a Rut!?

Wedding

Do you ever find yourself in a rut? Well, when I don’t post for a few days you know why! I’m in a deep rut and can’t seem to find my way out.

When I find myself in one of my funky ruts I take out a stamp set that and just stare at it…just kidding. I Google the name of the stamp set, but don’t bother clicking on the links (that wastes time I don’t have).

Instead, after Googling the name of the stamp set (example, Big News Stampin’ Up!) click right on “Images”… how do ya think I found this awesome inspiration!?

Wedding

How was it done? I used a Real Red Stampin’ Right Marker and brushed it on only the image I wanted. From the same stamp set I colored in the stamp with the word WEDDING in it and used my Stamp-a-mi-jig to line it up just right.

Since the word “WEDDING’ was not the same size as the other words I simply added a couple of rhinestones on each side to fill in the gaps.

I hope you do what I do when you are in a rut as you find ways to use a stamp set that is VERY versatile and can be used in different combinations.  Be inspired by a different way to use the stamp set here.

Think of just ONE friend who also suffers from In-a-Rut syndrome go on and send them this post so they too can learn something new when in a rut!

Happily Ever After

Happily4

Here’s the story of how this card came about:

Hubby: Can you please make me a wedding card for a co-worker.
Me: Sure
Me: (10 min later)… Here you go.
Hubby: Wow! That’s gorgeous! Is that a swap or did you make it?
Me: You just bought it for $100! LoL

He actually threw me off when he asked if it was a swap card.  We laughed and then he told me I better not tell anyone about the conversation.  Too late!  You can’t make this stuff up.  I still chuckle when I think about it.

Wedding

I was serious when I said it took me 10 minutes to make this cute golden wedding card.  The card base is in Whisper White and used some Basic Black to give it a little frame around the gold foil paper.  I heat embossed the ‘happily ever after’ on the ‘Gold Fancy’ designer paper.

Wondering how I glued it down without showing adhesive marks?  It’s no secret… I place tiny dots of our Crystal Effects behind the gold hearts and the sentiment.  Crystal Effects dries clear my friends!  A-ha!

Now in the comments below tell me if you would have you ever guessed and what type of adhesive do you use on vellum.

The Power of Two… At Last!

Love Friendship Wedding The inspiration for my card came from Mojo Monday Card Sketch Challenge #354.  I made the card for a very special couple who dated for quite a while before getting married. The picture does the gold paper no justice… it’s absolutely stunning in person. The gold embossing takes it up a notch too.  All the gold makes it look so expensive… LOL. mojo354 I think the card pretty much represented the sketch fairly well.

Creative Feedback:  Participation in card sketches challenges every card maker from the beginner  all the way to the advanced person.  This is the reason why I love participating in them.  I highly recommend you try them.

Congratulations on Your Wedding

Maggie's back in town!  WoW… what a whirlwind of even more travel since my arrival home.  It's been a whirlwind of international travel.  From Kyrgyzstan to California, Pennsylvania, and then Cancun, Mexico… I'm home until the next adventure.

Oh about my back… thank you so much for the well wishes.  I'm a whole lot better now… still a work in progress with continued physical therapy, but I'm 85% recovered.  Can't wait until I can start running again! =)

Wedding1

This beautiful wedding card was made for one of the two weddings I attended since returning from deployment.  Two very great friends were married and I was honored for being asked to witness the union of love.

This card captured that love too… don't you think?  I used the Top Note Stampin' Up! Bigz Die and made the buckle with Silver Glimmer Paper and two square punches.

You can make them too… punch the smaller square first then the larger one around it… you'll have a frame.  Simply cut out a small piece to glue in the middle and slip the ribbon in the middle.  It's that easy!

The heart was made using a small piece of left over Red Glimmer Paper with the Small Heart punch.

Wedding Congrats1

I'd love to end the year by sending a lucky reader the 'Epic Day This and That Designer Stickers' to include the 'This and That Epic Day Journal'.  Simply leave a comment and tell me what how you would use the journal.

The winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 19th's post.

There’s No Such Thing as Too Much Bling!

I made this card to celebrate my one year Maggie Made Cards blog anniversary.  A huge THANK YOU is never enough to my younger brother, Frank. My vision for the blog has been to CREATE, SHARE, AND INSPIRE you!  I hope I am doing just that.  My eyes light up and if there’s any stress in my bones, it just withers away when I’m stamping. You too can brush up on your skills, whether you are a beginner or advanced card maker.  My goal right now is to introduce you to your greatest stress reliever! Will you take the Stampin’ Up! TEST DRIVE and get your starter kit before the New Year?  Make it your Christmas gift to yourself or maybe you can hint about receiving a Stampin’ Up! gift certificate. To create the rubies, I took colored in our basic rhinestones with a red Sharpie.  The secret to perfect flames is to place small pieces of Daffodil Delight on the smallest pear shapes on the Sizzlets Large Paper Doily as shown below and run it through your Big Shot.
