Stamp Ink Paper: Water Color

I impressed myself with my water-coloring abilities.  I mean, I almost feel wow’d because when it comes to water-color, I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing.  I searched for “How to water-color for beginners” on YouTube and that’s it!

You can show us your water-coloring skills over at the Stamp Ink Paper challenge.  Craft level doesn’t matter.  I’m proof you don’t have to have any experience with water-coloring whatsoever.

The Details:

  • How to Get Started.  Believe me, I had no idea where to even start!  So, I went to YouTube and typed Watercoloring for Beginners and it returned me the list…start there and you’ll soon see that it’s easier than you think.  It’s literally how this card happened. he cardstock.
  • Watercolored Butterfly.  I learned about using an acrylic block from a fellow Pal and it was easy too.  First, I stamped the rubber with two different colors and then used our spritzer to spray water straight on the rubber.  It’ll come out different each time giving it a unique look.  Try it.
  • Black Die-Cut.  With the darker butterfly and light background, the black matte and die-cut made the “sunshine” stand out and didn’t overwhelm the entire card, at least that what I thought (HAHA).  It really does look so much more beautiful in person.

Butterflies: Live Laugh Love

Last weekend I was at the Stampin’ Up! On Stage Event in San Diego and besides having a blast with my crafting friends, I met an extraordinary woman named Doris Martin.  A Holocaust Survivor, she beat the odds in life! Let me tell you, she was something else and I’ll never forget her.  She signed my book and as I hugged her she held me tightly and said in my ear, “Sweetie, with Peace & Love you have everything.  So live life, laugh always, and give away your love.”  Her words put tears in my eyes and I just had to share this with you.  I just started to read her book, Kiss Every STEP and I have to say, “I can’t put it down!”  You can get one yourself on Amazon.

Having visited Dachau in Germany years ago and remembering what I saw at the museum came flooding back as if it was just yesterday.  The weird thing was that I made the card a few weeks ago before ever meeting her and I found it lovely that she used the words on the card when I hugged her.  I think I’m just going to have to send her the card.  Be Blessed and Be Thankful!  Keep on Living, Laughing, and Loving!

The Details:

  • Simplicity is in the details.  Punch, Adhere, Stamp & Emboss and BOOM you’re done!  The particular Designer Series Paper on my card is no longer available, but don’t let that stop you!  Use your favorite or whatever you have on hand.
  • Butterfly punches are retiring.  Yes, they are being retired in May and they’re only available while supplies last.  So you may want to grab them now before they’re gone for good.  With a bone folder give the butterfly wings a little curl inward to give them the in-flight 3D look.
  • Embossing powder.  Use whichever color your heart desires.  The black one I used is retired by us, but you can get more colors here.

Use Host Code above and receive a gift from me when you place an on-line order via my on-line store.  Do not use if your order is more than $150. You will receive additional Host Reward and you’ll automatically receive a gift from me, but please never check out as a visitor.  I won’t receive your information and will not be able to send your gift.

Hello Back to School

Welcome my friends to One Stamp At a Time’s blog hop, you may have just come from the wonderfully talented, Diane Squires at Stamp and Embellish and today we are focusing on what many parent’s love and some kids dread…Back to School!  For my card I used our new up and coming Schoolhouse Designer Series Paper (Holiday Catalog) and took it a little bit back with an old school retired stamp set…Greeting Card Kids.  I’m so glad I held on to this favorite stamp of mine.

Thanks Teacher's Notes

My second quick little project is so simple anyone can do it.  I purchased these little note pads from Target one day and knew they’d come in handy.  I covered the front of it with more Schoolhouse DSP and used the Alphabet Rotary Stamp to stamp “Teacher’s” on it.  I won’t be giving this notepad away.  I’ll be keeping it for myself and use it at my new part-time gig….teaching at the Arts & Crafts Center on base. Oh my gosh, I’m so excited and I can’t wait to show you what I’ll teach there.

Now, on to the next gorgeously talented Eva Bussom at Eva’s Cards and Things.  If you get lost, don’t worry the complete list is below and you can find your way back.  Or just hit the Next button below and go check out the awesome project Eva has to show you!  Thank you so much for hopping by and hope to see you next month.

Hello Sunshine

Hearts

Today’s card was inspired by a sketch challenge that I did not enter. Why? Because lately I’ve been living a couple days ahead of myself…LOL, it sounds funny, but it’s true. I know it’s Friday because I looked at the calendar, but in my mind when I awoke, I thought it was already Monday.

CYCI63-232x300

Although I didn’t post to the sketch challenge you can see the sketch above. I loved it! If you are a fellow card-maker you may even suffer from the same condition called cardgiveawayphobia. It’s a condition when you make a card and then find it very difficult to give away. I think this one has the same made-up medical condition (LOL).

MAGGIE MADE TIPS: Not in cash, but great crafting recommendations.

  • Embellishments! Don’t be afraid of them. The other day I made a card and a treat bag for Mother’s Day and I made flowers with the Bouquet Bigz L Die, which took me out of my comfort zone. Today I bring you hearts with pearls and if you must know…I’m not a pearl type girl either (LOL). I love rhinestones, but I wanted to do something different and I took out the pearls and went to town. After I took the photo, I fell in love with the pearls. The hearts would’ve been fine without the pearls, but I wasn’t going to let them win. I’m the one who is winning.

Why Make Monogrammed Notecards

Monogram Note Card

Today’s post is in collaboration with Createyou86 and much like paper-crafting we have my favorite thing in common… the love for creativity.

First things first, if you believe the hype when people say, “I can’t draw to save my life!” then this post is not for you.

The ability to hand draw objects or people is not creativity!

Do you agree with me? It doesn’t matter below is the definition.

A Creative Idea: What It Means

Creativity is the act of making something new and different to YOU. It is an idea, a poem, or even a handmade card, such as a notecard.

To put something together on a piece of paper and call it a notecard is creativity and it is like beauty… seen in the eye of the beholder.

Creativity Is No Secret: It’s Easier to Find Than You Think

Look at the simple, yet classy notecard (and envelope). I got the idea from a sketch I came across over a year ago on the internet. It’s become my “go to notecard” ever since.

Note Card

I always use an ‘M’ to represent my name and now its become my personal symbol. I send it to past, present and future networking contacts. Sending a few written words about a conversation, meeting, or future endeavor will make you stand out. Don’t believe me? Try it. You’ll be very surprised.

When I first began making note cards, I used a stencil for the ‘M’, but have not graduated to using a die-cut. A rubber stamp works well too. The possibilities are endless.

I made the lines around the card with a simple ruler and black pen to add emphasis to the “M”. You can see another more detailed note card here.

There’s a way for you to learn creativity!

Save time spent on the internet searching for ideas, I’ve put together a FREE e-book that comes with enough layouts for cards or scrapbook layouts. Download your e-book by signing up to receive my blog updates here

If you already make and send notecards, please leave a comment below and share who you send them to and why?

Pumpkin Anyone?

This month’s My Paper Pumpkin was amazing! I’ve taught two free card classes with them and they are a hit. At first I thought that the kits would be great for beginners who want to experiment with the kit, but I quickly realized that the kits are great for the advanced card maker also. I love them because I can put them together with ease and I send them to my customers as well as give them to family & friends. I can give so many of them away because I order three kits a month. That’s how crazy I am about them.

I couldn’t believe that this kit also came with tiny cards that can also be used with gift cards too. They are so darn cute! Click here to learn more about My Paper Pumpkin.

If you’ve been thinking about or considering a kit click on photo below to give it at least one try.

For A True Friend

A True Friend Did your momma ever tell you, “you can count true friends on one hand.”  When I was a kid, I didn’t know what that meant because I had more friends that I could hold with one hand! HAHAHA Like everything, in time, that expression became more clear to me. So if that’s the case, you will recreate this card in no time for only one handful of true friends.  It was seriously so easy to do too.

I stamped the frame and cut it out by hand. I then stamped the image on my card and covered it with the cutout so that when I stamped the swirls it didn’t stamp the frame.  Was that easy? I’ve attached a FREE masking guide HERE.

FriendshipThe listed the products I used below and I’ve also listed both the stamp set in wood and cling clear mount along with the digital download of the stamp set just in case you are a digital designer. You can also try My Digital Studio (Stampin’ Up!’s digital software) for 30 days for FREE.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a fantabulous weekend!

Gifts from My Pals

Who doesn’t like gifts? I know I love them and am so grateful to have such sweet friends.  Friends I would have never met if it weren’t joining Stampin’ Up!

Card Nicole Watt

Nicole Watt of Pixel Maven’s Retreat, is a very talented friend Pal gave this gorgeous Awesomeness card and coaster to me and the funny thing about crafters is that we love to give.  Coasters are the easiest project for a DIY gift and so inexpensive to make.  You can stamp directly on them and spray a clear coat of spray glue or bake them at 350 for 30 minutes.  I’ll be having a future class, so subscribe to my blog (if you don’t already) and find out real soon when I’ll be teaching this technique).

Card Karen Bone

This lovely card was a Convention Pals Card swap and each year I receive card swaps from my Pals and each year I only pass on a handful of them.  Why? Because they are so precious and cute I never want to give them away, but keep them for myself… LOL.

More Hugs

Maria

You can NOT deny that this is just the cutest card ever! I couldn’t help but feel so loved by my Pals when I opened this card.

My sweet Circle of Pals Maria R. one of my down-line sent this sweet thing wishing me well wishes. Maria is a hobby demonstrator who joined Stampin’ Up! just for the discount.  Anyone can join for any reason for as long as they want, no questions asked and you can learn more about it here.

Just Because

This second card was sent by one of my favorite Pretty Pals, Frances.  I say one of my favorite Pals because honestly I’ve lost count of how many I really have.  There are over 300+ plus of us and after a while it’s hard to keep track… LOL.

What I can tell you is that the friendships I have made are out of this world. Pals live all over the United States and we communicate virtually through email, a private Facebook page, and webinars.

Anyone can become a Pal and you can find out pretty much anything about us right here.

Feeling the Love

photo

Since I’ve been homebound in recovery mode, card-making has taken a back seat.  I made a handful of cards prior to my surgery and since then I’ve received some cards from my Pals and friends.

Wow, do I feel the love. This is what card-making is all about.  Sending them to loved one’s and friends who can use a pick me up. If I could only describe how good I feel when getting something special in the mail besides a bill. (LOL)

Just Because

This very sweet one was given to me by my friend Rose. I met Rose last year through a referral program sponsored through my up-line where we find local Pals.  We communicated on-line and after I returned from deployment she came over for my shoebox card swap. She’s been my friend ever since and I truly enjoy her friendship.

Again, the friends I’ve made in the last three years are priceless. Learn more about my Circle of Pals here. Get your card-making on and be on the look out for my next post because I’ve got more cards to show you that I’m so excited about.  They are so darn cute, just like little kittens.
