Happy Birthday Spanish

Today’s card is sort of a good-bye to the Spanish market of Stampin’ Up!  They will not longer produce stamp sets in Spanish and for many of us bilingual demonstrators, it a little sad. But, have no fear, I will continue to come up with innovative ways to make certain my Spanish heritage is represented with my own Spanish versions.  Onward to the CanYouCaseIt Sketch Challenge #69.

As I reached the end of compling this challenge card I looked at it and thought to myslef, “Self, what is missing on here?”  Before I could answer myself my hand reach for the Candy Dots. I show both photos because I want you too see for yourself the difference three Candy Dots made.  Just like an Almond Joy…sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t…LOL!

The one thing that will make my day today is if you too joined me at Can You Case It.  You know you want to and I want you to do it too!  Don’t make me beg!  Paticipating in challenges is good for the soul and it relaxes the mind to bring out some creative flow.

MAGGIE MADE TIPS:

  • Use your scraps.  Did you notice anything on the Daffodil Delight card stock?  It was a scrap I didn’t throw away after I messed up the embossing.  In my jounrey to keep every piece of scrap piece larger than one inch…I’m glad I held on to this one.  I scored it every 1/2″ an inch both horizontally and diagnally.  It just gave it a little lift off the edge on the layered. Why do I mention it?  To remind you to always hang on to your scraps…they really do come in handy later on.

You’d rather make a handmade card then to waste gas and run to the store and buy one. Besides you look for new ideas for project because you know that making something yourself is more thoughtful and meaningful.

You don’t have time, you’re in a hurry to get something else done, but you want to make a card yet another day escapes you. We ALL have days like this and it’s okay because this time you are going to make one in less than 15 minutes.

I’m going to tell you how.

Spanish Sending Good Thoughts

Make everything square or rectangular.  When you need to make something in a hurry keep it simple.  Less is more and you don’t need too much hoopla to make it pretty and meaningful.  Tie it off with the bright ribbon to make it holler a dash of color and there you go!  The perfect gift for family or loved one. I guarantee that only took 10 minutes because I made it.

This is the second card of a co-ed bilingual workshop this month.  You can make this card with a circle framelit or punch, but if you have neither get a bottle, a can, a small bowl… draw a circle around it and cut it with scissors.  Yes! Sweet Details (translation) for honeycomb paper.  In preparation for my first ever co-ed bilingual workshop this month I came up with this design to show off.  The design is simple enough for beginners, yet enough little bling for advanced card makers.  Couples who stamp together stay together.  Perfect way to relax and involve the family in the best all time hobby!

My Dad’s Mustache

The mustache is in right now, both on men (maybe some women…LoL), and I see it on so many craft items everywhere I go… I LOVE IT!  I especially love the mustache because my dad has had a mustache ever since first shaved… imagine that! Who do you know has had a mustache YOUR whole life that you don’t even know what they look like without one?

That’s Great… Enjoy… This Day – This is how it reads literally translated.  No wonder some people don’t understand me… LOL.   I sometimes feel as if some people may not understand the way I explain things.

I’m just joking, but seriously, there are times when I have to think things through a little more than the average person because I also think in Spanish as I write in English.  I know some of you are knodding yes… because you know it’s true.[clear-line]

Eso es genial … Disfrute … Este Día – Así es como se lee literalmente traducido.  Con razon algunas personas no me entienden… JAJAJA.  A veces me siento como si algunas personas no pueden entender la forma como yo explico las cosas.

Sólo estoy bromeando, pero en serio, hay momentos en que tengo que pensar las cosas un poco más que la persona promedio porque también pienso en español, mientras escribo en Inglés.  Sé que algunos de ustedes dicen sí…porque sabes que es verdad.

Lesson Learned: This lesson is an old one you’ve heard over and over again.  Yet I will continue to preach it… why?  Because it’s true!  THERE ARE NO MISTAKES IN STAMPING.  If you make a mistake, it can be covered up with an embellishment or do what I did here and turn the paper to the other side… =)  Did you see how easy that was?[clear-line]

 Lección Aprendida: Esta lección es una vieja que has escuchado una y otra vez. Sin embargo, lo voy a seguir repitiendo… ¿por qué?  Porque es la verdad! NO HAY ERRORES EN ESTAMPADO.  Porque es la verdad! Si comete un error,  puede ser cubierto con un elemento decorativo o de vuelta al papel para el otro lado. =)   ¿Viste que fácil fue?

Lesson Learned:  Don’t be afraid to add a darker color when picking out Spring colors.  After I created the quick & easy layout I felt like something was missing… and I wanted to add a small pop of color.  Would you believe that the chocolate chip card stock was a tiny piece that was left over from a different project!?  Don’t be afraid to add a darker color when added tiny details.

I know that as card-makers we tend to make more girly/feminine type cards.  Guys are not into rhinestones, pearls, or ribbon, so we tend to shy away from making them until we absolutely need them.  In honor of all the men in our lives, I have started posting a masculine card at least once a week (if you haven’t noticed by now)… LOL.  You can find last weeks card here. My bilingual experience since childhood is quite an eye-opener for me when I  had to translate for my ama (mom) everywhere we went.  She took me everywhere… to the grocery store, bank, doctor’s office, and I loved it!

I’m glad my mom took me along because it made me realize that you don’t always have to say, “my mom said…blah blah blah”.  Proper translations are always in the first person and it’s difficult to master… when you’re only 6 years old… LOL.
